The re-potted dahlias are making their return.
Last year, they thrived in B8b - the picture below was taken on 9th July, 2019.
The tubers are 4 years old and getting quite large - hence the large buckets/pots they have been re-potted in. I know I can divide the tubers in spring to get more (smaller) plants. This year I will probably attempt the cumbersome task of transplanting the plants from these large pots into a raised bed. These particular dahlias (single-flowered varieties) start off well in containers but only continue to do well if transplanted. I can protect the plants from slugs more easily when they are in pots, and so give them a better start.
The dahlia above was actually grown in that pot throughout the summer and left in the pot to over-winter.
