Sunday 2nd February - a day for us to venture beyond the lost horizons of the allotment garden of Nowhere in particular and into the hustle and bustle of 'seedy Sundayness'. The gardeners of the allotment garden of Nowhere in particular contributed around 40 packets of seed to the seed swap event and, in turn, we left the virtual hive of seed swappery with an interesting variety of new seeds/plants (mainly dye plants/wildflowers) to introduce to the plant community of our allotment garden. Pictured below, a few of the packets we contributed - climbing french bean (Blauhilde) in this tray.
For the folk who might have acquired some of our seed, here are some images of some the plants growing in 2019.
Asparagus Pea - A4c - July 2019.
Squash - Chicago Warted Hubbard (Heritage Seed Library)
A7b - July 10th 2019
We grew the squash as a climber to make an architectural feature of it - an arch over the path between rows A5 and A6.
Chicago Warted Hubbard - fruit.
17/9/19.
Back in 2020 at the Seedy Sunday event - Paddy van Zwanenberg gave a talk about 'Bioleft'
Paddy talked about how Bioleft has gone about trying to maintain seed diversity in Argentina - particularly in relation to tomatoes. He explained how various strategies have been employed to develop seed saving and sharing networks - in particular an 'open source' methodology.
