The allotment garden of Nowhere in particular -

main areas, 2019/2020.

2019 - a brief review:

A-top - 

a succession of green manures and wild flower mixes, to create a series of mulches - a sort of fallow year to rest and improve the soil. Introduction of thornless blackberry, blueberry and cranberry. Developed perennial borders A4a and A4b - adding more plants.

A-bottom - 

rows A5 to A11 used to grow edibles using a crop rotation of heavy feeders/sub-tropicals - legumes - brassicas - roots. Companion planting - nicotiana, stock, marigold, calendula and cosmos

B-top (including micro-orchard) - 

various fruit trees and bushes in island beds/borders with perennial herbs. 2 raised beds growing rhubarb. One raised bed used for leaf mould basket.

B-bottom - 

low maintenance tuberous/root crops/plants, including yacon, dahlia, potato, oca, skirret, asparagus. Introduction of daylilies, mint and strawberry baths and a comfrey border.

Polytunnel - 

propagation of seeds/seedlings plus raised beds to grow tomato, cucumber, tomatillo, aubergine, okra, chilli-pepper, sweet pepper, incaberry, grape, sweet potato, cucamelon, yacon, cinnamon vine, salads, french beans, peas. Companion planting included nasturtium, sweet pea, marigold, calendula, gazania, nicotiana, sunflower.

Lower Orchard - 

late 2019 - new materials storage area.

Main pond - 

maintained drainage and path around the pond.

Meadow - 

attempt at wild flower sowing along with container plants - echium and dahlia.

2020 - a brief plan: 

A-top - 
main edibles growing area - experiment with 'polycultures' - new crop rotation. Continue developing A4a and b.

A-bottom -
fallow year - green manures/wild flower mixes/mulching - very low maintenance.

B-top -
adding perennial herbs

B-bottom -
experimenting with growing mashua (?) and canna (?) in addition to crops of 2019 - low maintenance.

Polytunnel -
recovering? New irrigation system?

Lower Orchard -
clearing/waste disposal.

Main pond -
some clearing / introduction of new plants.

Meadow -
new perennial plantings

General - seed saving and heritage seed use/improve crop-harvest storage/reduced plastic use and waste/composting plus a new wormery/bees-apiary improvement/plant diversity/improved irrigation - less water use/better successional cultivation/new bug hotels - insect habitats.
