Outdoor Irrigation Pipe - improvised coupling

One of the happiest moments of the day came with the discovery that I could create couplings with some old, scrap bits of metal-tubing - the remnants of a cheap and nasty 'grow-house' I bought from B&M a few years ago. With the example pictured above, I have used jubilee clips however they proved not to be entirely necessary as the metal tube fits very tightly into the piping and one side of the coupling is supposed to leak anyway. With this discovery, I might be able to install more semi-automatic irrigation and so reduce the sort of time and energy I have expended watering in previous years - and conserve water.

A top - irrigation from a rainwater tank - using tricoflex hose and soaker hose.

One of the aims of the day was to find out if I could install a length, or 'circuit', of hose pipe that can irrigate all 3 raised beds in a row - such as A2 (a/b/c), pictured above. The water supply is from a rainwater tank (see image second from top) for which the pressure is only gravity - not via a pump.

The water supply/pressure seemed adequate enough to allow for irrigation through c.30m of the hose.
